The umbilical cord blood helps to regenerate the brain
By injecting umbilical cord blood in laboratory rats elderly, researchers at the University of South Florida (United States) have found improvements in the microenvironment of the hippocampus region of the brain of animals and a subsequent rejuvenation of neural progenitor stem cells . The results of their study are published in the digital edition of BMC Neuroscience.

"The neurogenesis of brain cells drops dramatically with increasing age, mostly by an impoverishment of the brain microenvironment," explained Alison Willing, an author of the study. "The increase in neurogenesis we get seems to be due to a decrease in inflammation."
